Talk to strangers about tech

Tech opinions harden fast inside a friend group or a workplace. A stranger has no stake in your setup and no loyalty to your platform, so you get an honest read on whether something is genuinely good or you have just talked yourself into it.

• Ask what piece of tech actually improved their day, rather than what they want to buy. Real use stories are more interesting than spec sheets and easier to relate to.
• Find the thing they are opinionated about: phone ecosystems, keyboards, operating systems, AI tools. A friendly disagreement about something low-stakes keeps a chat lively.
• Ask what they would build or fix if they could. It shifts the conversation from products to ideas, which works whether they are an engineer or simply curious.

Jargon-heavy explanations lose people fast, so check what they already know. Brand wars get repetitive within minutes. And be cautious with anyone who turns a tech chat toward “investment opportunities”, trading bots or an app they want you to download; that is a well-worn scam route.
