Wednesday nights pair you with someone who also wants to practise. Chat in each other’s languages, tap Translate on any message you do not understand, and teach each other the phrases textbooks skip.

How it works

  1. Join any time between 8 and 10 PM IST.
  2. You are matched with someone else who joined the exchange, often from another country.
  3. Take turns writing in each other’s language. Tap Translate under any message to read it in yours.
  4. Do tonight’s challenge together, then keep chatting or hit Next.

House rules

  • Mistakes are the point. Correct each other kindly, and only if asked.
  • Keep personal details out of the practice sentences.
  • The usual StrangerChat rules apply: 18+ only, be kind, and report anyone who is not.

A new one every week, in this order. Try any of them in a regular chat too.

Language Exchange Wednesday: common questions

What languages can I practise?
Any. You are matched at random, and Translate works between English, German, Portuguese and Arabic in the app’s language setting.
What if my level is very basic?
Say so in your first message. Most people are happy to go slowly, and a few words in each other’s language already counts.
