“For what it’s worth”, a spoken phrase that forum and email users shortened, and one that has stayed a little more grown-up than most chat slang.
Gentle and considerate. It offers a thought without insisting it matters, which makes it useful for advice nobody asked for.
It is almost always written “fwiw” in lowercase. It is related to “fyi” (for your information), which is more neutral, and to “just my two cents”, the spoken version of the same modesty.
Using FWIW to deliver a correction can come across as passive-aggressive, as in “fwiw that’s not what I said”. It also reads as more formal than most chat slang, so in a fast, playful conversation it can feel slightly out of place. If you mean it as encouragement, say the kind part plainly.
