“Talk to you later”, another instant messaging classic from the era of buddy lists and away messages.
Friendly and open-ended. With a stranger it is usually a warm sign-off rather than a real plan to talk again.
“ttyl” is the classic, “ttys” means “talk to you soon” and “ttyt” means “talk to you tomorrow”. “cya”, “later” and “l8r” are shorter goodbyes that do the same job.
In anonymous chat, TTYL rarely means you will actually talk again: matches are random and there are no friend lists. Do not read it as a promise, and do not ask for contact details to make it happen. If you both enjoyed the chat, a warm goodbye is the right ending.
